
The student will be exposed to all aspects of shelter medicine with an emphasis on developing surgical skills. Our standard clinical facilities required for a 3 year AAHA accreditation include: x-ray machine/ automatic processor; surgical suite; hospital area; exam/treatment rooms; isolation area; microscope; QBC machine; pharmacy; EKG, additional diagnostic tests are submitted to an off site laboratory.
Exposure to all aspects of shelter medicine with an emphasis on developing surgical skills. Duties include exams on animals pending adoption, treatment of injured/sick stray animals during their holding period, treatment of animals which become ill post adoption, and surgical procedures on adopted and stray animals. The student may also participate in the activities of our behavior and education department and /or humane investigation department based on time and individual interest. The student can expect to see between 20 – 30 cases.
The student will have direct access to the veterinarian 8 – 12 hours per day.
